I had yet another follow-up this morning with my surgeon. I’m beginning to feel like I’m driving out there every week! But I’m also glad that he’s continuing to check up on me and make sure that everything is healing as it should. I suppose that’s better than just assuming it’ll be alright.
My appointment was first thing this morning, so it was kind of fun to see all of the students heading off to their first day of class. It brought back memories of my years at Carolina, and also made me excited about my first class tomorrow!
I have decided I like these early appointments because – even though I’d prefer to not start off my day visiting my surgeon and dealing with him poking around an open wound – I can get in and get out quickly.
I have been a little nervous about how things have been healing and have felt that it’s not coming along well. I just thought this would all be completely behind me at this point. My surgeon told me that overall it still looks good, but I am having a good bit of irritation around the area, so he recommended that I try some creams to help keep a barrier layer on the skin surrounding the wound. I asked him if I am where I should be at this point and he said that in people like me who had issues in that area prior to surgery, that I’m actually right where he would expect me to be. That made me feel better… even though the rest of the day I’ve been sitting a little funny because of the appointment.
So that was all that came out of the appointment today and I’ll go back to see him again in yet another three weeks. I have to keep putting the silver nitrate on there, which is unpleasant at this point, but not nearly as painful as it was this time last month. And I guess if doing that is going to get this all healed up and behind me for good, then it’s worth it for now.
