My “happy place” consists of sunshine, sand, a lounge chair and the sound of waves crashing on the beach… and that’s just where I spent the better part of the past few days.
I knew my final days of surgery recovery leave were fast approaching, so my husband and I decided to take a few days to get away and enjoy the ocean. We set off to Myrtle Beach after my husband got off from work on Wednesday and got there in enough time to make a quick run to the store and relax for the rest of the evening.
Our first day there was beautiful. I was even able to talk Jarrod into heading out to the beach for a couple of hours that morning. (He doesn’t exactly enjoy just laying out in the sun all day as much as I do.) We took it pretty easy for most of the day and went out for seafood that evening. Jarrod’s brothers and their ladies came up that evening and joined us to watch the UNC/NCSU College World Series game (which the heels won!).
Of course, now that the girls were there, we spent a little more time actually out at the beach, while the guys went off to the driving range. We had beautiful weather for most of the trip. We got a little rain on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, but not enough to really deter us from what we wanted to
do. We really kept busy most of the time, which actually started to wear me out a little towards the end of the trip. I was reminded a few times that I’m still in recovery mode.
The best part was just having some time to go somewhere else and not worrying about the usual day-to-day stuff. We lounged around in the sun, ate some good food and enjoyed spending time with family. We came home this morning and spent my final afternoon relaxing at the house. I guess “vacation” is officially over.
