Stolen colon crohns ostomy blog ccfa team challenge half marathon colitis team challenge tuesday

Not much time to write tonight, but I wanted to give a quick Team Challenge Tuesday update. I actually got in a good run this week! And yes, a decent bit of it was an actual RUN!
As you know if you’ve been following along, I’m pretty far behind in my training for my half-marathon at the beginning of June. I figured if I could get in 6 miles this week, I could gradually increase by a mile every week and get up to 11 miles the week before my race and make the final jump to 13.1 on race day. But as of last week, even that sounded like a big stretch.
I decided to go about this a little differently. Instead of looking at it as “I have to run 6 miles” I broke it down into minutes. I said I would walk a minute, run a minute, walk a minute, run… That way I’m not just walking, but I’m also not trying to accomplish too much. It has turned out to be a great rhythm for me. My phone alerts me at every minute and most of the time I can run for 3, 5 or even 10 minutes at a time, then slow down for a brisk walk for a minute or two.
I made up my mind to make it the 6 miles, no matter how long it took. And in the end, I kept up an average pace of 12:58 a mile. That’s only about a minute slower than my race in December! Yes, I am fully aware of how slow that is in runner’s terms, but going from thinking that I wouldn’t even be able to complete the race to doing 6 miles in under 1:20 has made me feel so much more confidant about this race. Now, if I can just keep that up for the next 6 weeks, I’ll be good to go!
Don’t forget, I’m holding a fundraiser this Thursday at Top of the Hill in Chapel Hill. I’d love to see you there! More info HERE.
Please take a moment today to pray for my friend, Nation. He and his wife, Jamie, were victims of a stabbing assault yesterday. He has been released from the hospital, but Jamie is still in critical condition. Praying for a full recovery for them both!

Sorry to hear about your friends. How horrible!
Sounds like the running is coming along just fine. When I was running I was very slow, but I always got where I needed to be! Keep it up! We all have goals no matter how big or small. My goal. To walk the track at the ball diamond every time one of my boys has a ball game. Considering a month ago I did a short stint I. The hospital and weighed close to a hundred pounds, twice around the track is a good start. Maybe next week it will be three! Oh and prednisone isn’t helping.
