I think I can, I think I can…

Day 13 Prompt: Change your mindset and start thinking of all the things you CAN do, instead of all the things you can’t. (from Full Frontal Ostomy)
This has been a little difficult for me the last couple of weeks. I’ve jumped on the I-can-run-a-triathlon train, but as I wrote in my last post, I’ve hit some snags due to some inflammation.
My knees really started hurting about a week into my run training. To the point that I was about 5 minutes into a run and I had to stop. For the next two weeks I could hardly even jog in place. I was fine walking, but if I added any extra effort, it just hurt too bad.
It’s been a little discouraging. I’d been focusing so much on what I CAN do and thinking that there’s nothing that I can’t do because of my Crohn’s anymore, that suddenly, when something popped up that I literally couldn’t do (and shouldn’t do, even if I could push through the pain), it hit me hard. I don’t want to have to stand there and say, “I can’t do that.” It’s frustrating.
I spoke with my doctor about the pain right when it started and he reminded me that this is all still new and said the inflammation will likely continue to improve. So now I’m trying to push past all the disappointment. I was hoping to run a race in a few months, but I may have to push that back until next year. But I’m doing my best to keep on a schedule and continuing to do the things I CAN do.
