My husband comes from a musical family. His father was in a band when he was younger and did a number of shows around his hometown in upstate NY. He passed those musical qualities on to all three of his sons. Jarrod plays guitar. His older brother JT plays drums. And his younger brother Josh handles the bass. They’ve got a self-made band already.
Over the years that I’ve known them, they have played a few events around the area. It started with a great show when his younger brother graduated high school. They were the band for a cancer awareness event and they’ve played for a few parties as well. A couple of years ago, they were asked to take part in Creedmoor’s music festival. They played the show in 2010 and were asked to come back the next year. They were unable to do the show last year, but they were back at it for this year’s festival.
It was a beautiful day on Saturday. We had to time to enjoy the vendors along the street and listen to some of the other bands. These guys have been dubbed the “Hughes Garage Project” and play a medley of classic rock covers. I have to say, I was very impressed, because if I’m being honest right here, they didn’t start practicing until a couple of weeks ago. JT’s wedding was the end of last month, so they weren’t able to find the time until that had passed and he returned from his honeymoon. Granted, these guys have been playing together for most of their lives, so getting back into the groove isn’t too difficult. They even included a couple of friends as guest singers this time.
It’s always a great time listening to them. I can only hope that someday our kids inherit the Hughes’ musical abilities and not my inability to carry a tune. Maybe I can play tambourine or something..
