Leaves, hay bales and ghosts! Oh my!

It’s days like today that remind me why I love North Carolina. I couldn’t picture a more perfect day as I sit on my back porch, enjoying the sunshine and the cool breeze.
Rylie Hughes fall autumn seasons change outdoorsAutumn is definitely in the air. There’s a certain crispness that you can smell as the seasons change. This is my favorite time of year. And yes, I know I say that every season. Winter’s my favorite because I love Christmas and snow. Spring is my favorite because it’s such a welcome change from the cold. Summer’s my favorite because of the long days and the beach. But fall is really, truly the best season.
Scarves, pumpkins, football, boots, Thanksgiving, the leaves changing, back-to-school, the lack of humidity, trick-or-treaters… I can’t get enough of it! I’m so thankful to be able to enjoy it and not anticipate another 6 months of constant hospitalizations. It was last October when things began going downhill for me. Now, a year later, I’m stronger than ever and excited about watching our beautiful world change once again.
I love the reminder that change is good. And change is beautiful. And even when winter comes, spring is always on the other side.

And even when the trees have just surrendered
To the harvest time
Forfeiting their leaves in late September
And sending us inside
Still I notice You when change begins
And I am braced for colder winds
I will offer thanks for what has been and was to come
You are autumn
Nichole Nordeman, Every Season
